GETTING AROUND ART WORLD

Our Art World includes a Visitor Centre, a Garden, an Art Villa, and an outdoors Linear Gallery. From your arrival at our Visitor Centre, a flute will lead you to the Garden of Forking Paths. From there, follow Birdsong and then Congas to the Art Villa. Or follow Running Water and then Bubbling Beeps to reach the outdoors Linear Gallery. Take care to learn the ‘Obstacle’ sound, and listen out for how the sound of wind changes when you are outdoors.

GALLERY LEVELS ONE AND TWO

As you approach the gallery, you will hear the sound of congas.

Nish will meet you again at the Level One entrance. From there, you can follow the windchimes into the gallery. Once inside the gallery, try walking around. The walls are covered with art. Each art piece contains an audio description which will play when you walk near to the art. There are also a few video pieces which trigger in a similar way.

Accessing the upper floors is a bit of an adventure. From the Level One entrance, Nisha will be there to help guide you. You will follow a series of musical loops which guide you up a series of ramps and paths which weave a rectangular path from Level One to Level Two. The first four sounds will build cumulatively, until you hear a short musical piece. Once you hear all four sounds, you will know you are on Level Two.

From Level Two, Nish will help you find the start of the NEXT musical composition, which will guide you up to Level Three, our roof terrace.

LEVEL TWO TO LEVEL THREE (THE ROOF TERRACE)

Similar to the journey between Level One to Level Two.

You can either follow audio description of art works which line the walls of this rectangular gallery, and also look out for a video wall which will play a video of powerful performance art by Fenbi.

Or you can continue winding your way upwards to Level Three. Nisha will be there again to help guide you. You will follow a second series of musical loops from Level Two to Level Three. The new set of four sounds will build cumulatively, until you hear a short musical piece. Once you hear all four sounds, you will know you are on Level Three.

Level Two is perhaps our toughest navigational challenge. When you meet Nisha on Level Two, you will be hearing ALL of the elements of the first piece of music, and you must listen out for the first element of the second piece of music.

NAVIGATING THE OUTDOOR GALLERY

At the entrance to our outdoor gallery, Nish will introduce you to Whitt. Whitt is our world builder and well-placed to explain how to get around our outdoors gallery, and how to hitch a ride back in on his innovative ‘conveyor platform’.

The central ‘Art Avenue’ contains six sections: the exhibition introduction; four art galleries; and a thank you section. In our audio landscape, the central ‘Art Avenue’ is marked by a gentle looping melody. As you progress from the Intro section to the next gallery and beyond, each section adds a new musical instrument to the original melody. If you decide to walk back towards the entrance, these later musical instruments will fall away from the mix. Try walking backwards and forward through this central avenue, and listen to how the music changes. The five sounds are: Acoustic melody; Vocal synth; Stabs and strings; Bass guitar; and Electric Harpsichord.

Between each section is a plaza, where you can either continue walking to the next section, or take one of Whitt’s ‘conveyor platforms’ to skip ahead to the next section.  In our audio landscape, the plazas all include a gentle beeping melody.

The departure points for the conveyors makes a mechanical whirring sound. The conveyor platforms move through a corridor that runs parallel to the central Art Avenue. In our audio landscape, this conveyor corridor sounds like drum beats, to evoke a sense of more rapid movement.
